The Workshops Behind Rabbit Forest Jewellery - The people and places that help bring our jewellery to life

Behind every finished piece of Rabbit Forest Jewellery are the hands and expertise of many people. While our London studio is where designs are developed and final pieces are assembled and checked, we rely on long-standing partnerships with skilled artisans and workshops in China and Japan. These relationships are central to how we work and to the quality of what we create.
We believe that strong, respectful partnerships lead to better jewellery — and to a more honest way of doing business.
Our Approach to Partnerships
We work with a small number of carefully chosen partners in China and Japan. Many of these relationships have developed over more than a decade. Rather than changing suppliers frequently in search of lower costs, we invest in long-term collaboration built on trust, clear communication, and shared standards.
When we visit our partners, we spend time understanding how they work — not only the technical processes, but also how they treat their teams and manage their workshops. We look for consistency in quality, but we also look for integrity in how people are treated and how resources are used.
Working with Partners in China and Japan
Our freshwater pearls come primarily from long-term partners. These workshops and farms have developed deep expertise in cultivating and processing pearls. Over the years, we have built relationships based on regular communication, shared quality expectations, and mutual respect for each other’s expertise.
We value partners who maintain high standards in water quality, mussel care, and pearl treatment. In return, we commit to consistent orders and fair, timely payment. This stability allows our partners to plan ahead and maintain steady working conditions for their teams.
For our Akoya pearls, we work with established partners in both China and Japan. Each pearl farming carries a long heritage and strict standards. Our partners are known for their precision, attention to detail, and deep knowledge of oyster health and pearl development.
These relationships are built on the principles in: respect, consistency, and a shared commitment to quality. We value the opportunity to work with artisans who have inherited generations of knowledge while also embracing modern, responsible practices.
Why These Relationships Matter
When we know the people behind our materials, we can make better decisions. We understand how a pearl was grown and treated. We can ask questions, request adjustments, and maintain consistent quality year after year. Strong partnerships also allow us to respond more thoughtfully when challenges arise, rather than simply changing suppliers.
Most importantly, these relationships reflect the values we want Rabbit Forest Jewellery to stand for: care, respect, and a commitment to doing things properly, even when it requires more time and effort.
Behind every pearl is a network of skilled hands and thoughtful decisions. We are grateful to work with partners who share our respect for quality and integrity.
